Saeed Bin Suroor runs an interesting newcomer in the opener
"The trainer's 25% strike rate with two-year-old debutants is enough proof he can get one ready and Asatir should make his presence felt."
The only Flat meeting in Britain today is at Redcar, and it is the venue for today's placepot...
14:05 - A couple of unraced but expensive juveniles take the eye in this opening maiden. Asatir for Godolphin is a brother to Group 3 winning miler Elusive Warning as well as a half-brother to plenty of minor winners in the US, which explains his high sales price ($260,000). The trainer's 25% strike rate with two-year-old debutants is enough proof he can get one ready and Asatir should make his presence felt among what looks on paper an ordinary bunch. Beyond Conceit was bought for a similar price at the sales and the well-bred son of Galileo should be thereabouts if clued up for his debut.
14:35 - Dean Iarracht doesn't always help himself with a tendency to miss the break, but he has dropped 3 lb below his last winning mark and gave encouragement at Ayr last time that he could be running into a bit of form. The consistent Desert Hunter, who has made the frame on his last four starts, including a second over course and distance in May, is also selected. Although he has not won for over a year, he is at least holding his form which is more that can be said for many of his rivals here.
15:05 - Little Jimmy Odsox made the perfect start to his career when winning at Doncaster on his debut. The form of that maiden has worked out well as the second has gone in since, while the third was placed next time. Tim Easterby's gelding is clearly open to improvement and has entered handicaps on a generous mark. The step into handicap company saw Mecca's Team improve to get off the mark over course and distance last time, displaying a good attitude to battle on. A similar performance will see her thereabouts.
15:40 - A claimer which should see Doctor Zhivago and The Osteopath fight out the finish, with the preference for the former. He had been holding his form well this season until a below-par effort at Newcastle last time. He can be forgiven that one bad run and if returning to form he is a major player.
16:15 - It may well be worth chancing Mayoman as he steps back up to six furlongs. He comes here off an encouraging effort at York which suggests he is now fit enough to strike in a handicap of this nature. Feel The Heat won his only race over course and distance last year and he comes here in good form after a creditable effort in a first-time visor at Newcastle last time. If the headgear has the same effect, he should go well.
16:45 - We're looking at a seven-runner field here, so it's time to play safe and choose two selections. Firstly, Christmas Light ran easily her best race when second at Beverley on her penultimate run. She was turned out quickly when below form last time, but now with time to recover she should show herself in a better light. The insurance selection is Bella Noir who put up her best effort since winning on her debut when wearing a visor for the first time on her latest start. This represents a drop in class and is a solid option.

The Super Sprint, with 25 runners and just three places up for grabs, makes Newbury an unattractive proposition for placepot purposes, but it's the four-runner conditions event, where they would all have to go on the ticket, that confirms it as a no-go. Over to Newmarket it is then......
This afternoon's placepot comes from Haydock Park......
This evening's placepot comes from Epsom......
