Coral Cup dark horse Dare Me

"Dare Me, a former smart bumper winner, has not been seen to best advantage in his two starts since a 15-month absence..."

With four large-field races unlikely to allow today's Cheltenham placepot dividend to fall below yesterday's £76.20 return, Timeform's Adam Brookes attempts to slalom all six legs and land a mountainous windfall...

13:30 - London-based builders the Doran Brothers are no strangers to Festival glory having owned 1995 World (Stayers') Hurdle winner and dual Gold Cup third Dorans Pride and they could have further reason to celebrate with Allee Garde in the opening four-mile National Hunt Chase. Willie Mullins' charge has improved on his hurdles form switched to fences since December and shapes as though he's set to relish the step up a marathon trip. Similar comments also apply to Timeform top-rated Teaforthree, who may have appreciated easier ground but has the assistance of previous winner JT McNamara in the saddle, and Harry The Viking, who beat next-time Grimthorpe scorer Ikorodu Road and the reopposing Lively Baron in a handicap at Doncaster last time.

14:05 - It'll be no surprise to most that Simonsig is top rated for the Neptune after his three hurdle outings so far, his 7 lb cushion over nearest pursuer Sous Les Cieux potentially even greater when considering the former's potential for further improvement. His task has been made easier by the rerouting of Boston Bob and the defection of Batonnier but, for all that he's potentially high class and ought to cope with the test, it makes sense to include an insurance policy with only three places on offer and that comes in the form of the strong-travelling Make Your Mark.

14:40 - Just as the three short-priced bankers got placepot players through their respective legs yesterday, today should prove no different with very few holes to be found in the claims of Grands Crus in the RSA Chase. With his class long since confirmed (4 lb clear of Bobs Worth on figures) and his jumping extremely assured, it will be a shock should Grands Crus fail to win, never mind three finish in front of him.

15:20 - The same sentiments can also be applied to last year's champion chaser Sizing Europe, who is yet to finish out of the places in 15 outings over fences, landing four Grade 1s in the process. Granted, Big Zeb is likely to put up sterner resistance than when readily succumbing to the selection in Punchestown's Tied Cottage in February, but Sizing Europe in included as a confident banker.

16:00 - With Donald McCain having had a great opening day it would be no surprise to see the well-handicapped Son of Flicka bounce back but, limiting what is a devilishly competitive handicap to just four selections, he narrowly fails to make the cut. The quartet who do are generally consistent pair Featherbed Lane and Act of Kalanisi, good-ground lover Silverhand (goes well fresh) and potential dark horse Dare Me. Dare Me, a former smart bumper winner, has not been seen to best advantage in his two starts since a 15-month absence and, as one of only three who remain open to progress, is worth keeping on side now upped in trip.

16:40 - Timeform ratings concur with Alan King's belief that his Vendor is dangerously well handicapped in the Fred Winter as the leggy, useful-looking ex-French gelding is fully 10 lb clear of the field following his length-and-a-half victory over Tango de Juilley in a soft-ground minor event at Newbury on his British debut in December and must go in. Joining him is the trainer's other runner Ardlui, who beat the same Venetia Williams horse at the same track (albeit receiving 7 lb) on his penultimate run and was one of the highest rated on the Flat.
