England hooker's indiscipline means he won't be available for Saints but he will be free to tour South Africa this summer...

Dylan Hartley may not play again this season after the England hooker was given an eight match ban for biting Stephen Ferris. The incident, which was not spotted by the match refereee, occurred in England 30-9 victory over Ireland at Twickenham in the Six Nations.

The Six Nations committee launched an investigation after Ireland flanker Ferris made the allegations at the end of the match. They examined video evidence and listened to testimonies from Hartley's international and club coaches. Ferris also gave his side of the story via video link to Tuesday's hearing.

Hartley was cited and found guilty of breaking the IRB's law on 'acts contravening good sportsmanship.' His ban means that he will only play for Northampton again this season if they make the Aviva Premiership Final on May 26. They are currently fourth in the table, ten points behind leaders Saracens, and trade at [4.7] in Betfair's Grand Final winner market.

Hartley said he was disappointed and determined to do everything he can to support his club for the rest of their campaign. The offence is a stain on England's encouraging Six Nations performance, which not only involved exciting displays but also showed improved discipline. Hartley will be available for the team's summer tour of South Africa.
