Wolverhampton is the scene of Monday's best bet
"The step back up to a mile today is in her favour and, with a number of her rivals making little appeal, this looks a good opportunity for Anginola to regain the winning thread..."
National hunt action has centre stage at present, but a horse on the Flat at Wolverhampton rates as Monday's bet of the day...
The ground at Ffos Las today is likely to be testing, with the official going being described as soft, heavy in places. That should play into the hands of the Nick Mitchell-trained Misstree Dancer (14:20), as two of her three career wins have come on heavy ground. The seven-year-old made a smooth transition to fences last season with a win at Newbury in December among a number of creditable efforts, and she should be all the better for last month's reappearance over a trip short of her best at Wetherby. Now back off a mark just one pound higher than for that Newbury success, and with the step back up to three miles in her favour on ground that will suit, Misstree Dancer looks an attractive proposition this afternoon.
Azione (14:55) made a winning debut for the Jeremy Scott yard at Exeter eight days ago, and with the stable continuing in fine form she is likely to prove hard to beat at Ffos Las in the two-mile handicap hurdle. As that win at Exeter came in a conditional jockeys' race, the daughter of Exit To Nowhere is able to escape a penalty, meaning she can race off the same mark today leaving her incredible well handicapped on the pick of her old form. Another for whom the soft ground will pose few problems, she can make it two wins from two starts for her new connections.
Our final SmartPlay, and bet of the day, comes from Wolverhampton in the shape of Anginola (16.50). The Joseph Tuite-trained runner got off the mark at Kempton in September, and has run well in defeat on both starts since. Dropped back to seven furlongs for her latest outing, Anginola gave the impression she found the trip on the short side, taking a while to hit top gear before finishing well to take fourth. The step back up to a mile today is in her favour and, with a number of her rivals making little appeal, this looks a good opportunity for Anginola to regain the winning thread.
