"Palawi relished the mud when campaigned on the Flat so today’s testing conditions shouldn’t inconvenience him.."

Three selections for Sunday's racing from the Timeform Free Form Website.

Recession Proof's success in the re-arranged Totesport Trophy at Newbury on Friday continued the good run of the John Quinn yard and Palawi (14.10) looks set to give the Settrington stable another success up at Sedgefield. Palawi relished the mud when campaigned on the Flat so today's testing conditions shouldn't inconvenience him and he's made a promising start over hurdles, winning a similar event at Haydock in October and finding just Empire Levant too good when returning to form at Doncaster last time. He should have too much class for Lamps who was possibly flattered when second in a well-run race at Sandown last time.

Howard Johnson and Graham Wylie introduced a fine prospect at Haydock Park yesterday in the shape of Back In Focus and those famous black and beige silks look set to be back in the winners' enclosure at Sedgefield courtesy of Glencree (16.15). The seven-year-old put in a largely solid round of jumping when making a winning start over fences on the back of a 21-month absence at Catterick, showing a good attitude to hold on as he tied up in the straight. The presence of Predictive and Sir Tantallus Hawk, the latter receiving 7 lb, will ensure this is no cakewalk today, but Glencree looks open to a good deal of improvement and can see them off.

But Beautiful (17.25) can continue her improvement and take the last at Kempton. The well-bred filly followed up her win in a six-furlong maiden at the track with success in a handicap over seven furlongs that's worked out really well. But Beautiful found herself short of room at a crucial stage when denied in her hat-trick bid a month ago, but the step up to a mile today should ensure she has plenty of time to find her finishing effort and she can see off a field of largely-exposed rivals.

Recommendations

Back Palawi @ [2.4] Sedgefield 14.10
Back Glencree @ [3.8] Sedgefield 16.15
Back But Beautiful @ [2.9] Kempton 17.25

Three selections for Sunday's racing from the Timeform Free Form Website....

It's FA Cup weekend. Much of the same over-dramatic, over-sentimental doom-mongering applied to the FA Cup is applied to racing; all 'why oh whys' and no solutions. Actually, neither racing nor the FA Cup is doing that badly, thank you, and we'll be doing even better if one or several of these recommended bets goes in....
