Catterick Bridge

"The five-furlong track at Catterick is downhill all the way and that’s going to help Blown It carry his speed that bit longer after a couple of good in-frame efforts"

Catterick is the venue for today's placepot...

14:00 - Code Cracker is pretty obviously up to bagging herself a maiden judged on her debut fourth at Folkestone last month and this looks an eminently winnable one. If there's a potential improver among the remainder then it's likely Erdaada, who is one for believers in the benefit of a change of jockey. She looked promising on her debut at Haydock and had possible excuses when behind Joshua The First at Ayr last time.

14:30 - Dark Spirit's half-brother Dark Ranger stays all day so there's good reason to believe she won't be troubled by the step up to two miles in the seller. She's the pick of the weights and makes the cut for the placepot along with Drop The Hammer, for whom the chance of a soft lead is just about enough to overlook an abysmal run over hurdles on Sunday.

15:00 - The market has this as a tight race, and it is, but the one that really catches the eye is Night Trade. Her two career wins have both come at Catterick, including this race off 2 lb higher last year, and she's had clear excuses for below-par efforts the last twice. Everything points to a big run today.

15:30 - Silvestre de Sousa making all on Cat o' Nine Tails is probably the likeliest outcome here. If not, then it'll hopefully be Union Island picking her off late. They look the two to take in a race that could well be the downfall of many a placepot.

16:00 - The five-furlong track at Catterick is downhill all the way and that's going to help Blown It carry his speed that bit longer after a couple of good in-frame efforts. We're taking on a trio of last-time winners in a competitive enough race for the grade, but Blown It looks just about banker material.

16:30 - Eijaaz should have the beating of Hel's Angel judged on their running in a course-and-distance event last month, but all the same the safest option might just be to take them both, not least because it means covering all angles tactically, one a hold-up performer, the other a front runner.

Carlisle's unique lady riders meeting is tonight's placepot target......

With Glorious Goodwood having taken its last breath, and Galway hanging on by the skin of its teeth, now seems as good a time as any to turn attention to summer jumping....

With the Stewards' and the consolation to negotiate among today's Goodwood placepot this could easily go very wrong, but the 'pot' is going to dwarf any of the others and it's a case of 'you've got to be in it to win it', so here goes......
