"The Tatkin was much improved when stepped up in trip last time and looks a real dour mudlark."

The main action is across the Irish Sea where Hurricane Fly makes his first appearance of the campaign but profit may be found opposing the Cheltenham champ, says David Cleary

After a tremendous Saturday at Cheltenham, Leopardstown takes centre stage this afternoon, with the returning Hurricane Fly bidding to follow Big Buck's in winning his Festival prep race in style, the Irish Champion no less at 14:30.

Given he's not been seen since May and has missed a few engagements, this afternoon might be when Hurricane Fly is potentially vulnerable. While an impressive win is much the most likely outcome, there is some mileage to be had in backing his stable companion Thousand Stars on a win and place basis. Thousand Stars is overpriced in relation to Unaccompanied, given a moderate ride when beaten by that mare last time and capable of finishing a clear second to Hurricane Fly on his best form.

Best bet of the day may be The Tatkin in the 14.55 at Ffos Las. She was much improved when stepped up in trip last time and looks a real dour mudlark. She's up 13 lb in the weights but has more to offer. Her main rival Bendant is potentially very well handicapped but he is far from certain to benefit from stepping up to three miles.

Rory Delargy is at Cheltenham for Trials Day where several Gold Cup pretenders put forward their case in the feature Argento Chase. Rory has a strong fancy in that race, and a couple of others of interest....

The names of today's selections are certainly promising and Terry Norman can offer sound reasons for backing them......

Today's best action is across the Irish Sea but the best betting opportunities are at Warwick and Newcastle, says David Cleary...
