Doncaster is the venue for Sunday's best bet.

Doncaster is the venue for Sunday's best bet.

"Having had so few starts, Sound Amigo may yet have more to come from his handicap mark of 80..."

Timeform's SmartPlays team highlight a trio of bets for Sunday, with two at Doncaster and one at Ascot...

Sequoia, trained by Charlie Hills, looks to have an excellent opportunity to shed his maiden at the third time of asking in Doncaster's 14:10. The three-year-old took to the track twice last year, making his debut at Ascot in July. He finished fourth that day, likely to have gone much closer should more have fallen in his favour having been patiently ridden, but he closed up well for just hands and heels all the same. Later that month he also finished fourth at Goodwood, somewhat disappointingly merely matching his debut form, but he ought to be well suited by the additional furlong faced today and, with Charlie Hills having saddled four winners in the last eight days, he looks set to run a big race.

The following handicap at Doncaster looks to be a very competitive event, but it could pay to side with Sound Amigo at the [11.5] currently available. The four-year-old, trained by Ollie Pears, is fairly lightly-raced but boasts a good strike rate having won four of his eight starts. His third success, a Haydock handicap in May last year, contained no less than five next time out winners, and Sound Amigo made a solid seasonal reappearance at Southwell in February. Having had so few starts, there may yet be more to come from his official handicap mark of 80 and, having proved himself as good on turf as the all-weather, he could be the solution to a tricky race.

The final race in Britain today is Ascot's hunters' chase over two miles and five furlongs. The Paul Nicholls-trained Hoo La Baloo got his name back on the scoresheet at Worcester in June, and he was far from discredited on his return from a seven month absence when third in the Grand Military Gold Cup over three miles last month. The drop in trip faced today ought to be in his favour (joint career-best came when fourth in the Tingle Creek over two miles), and the 11-year-old appeals as the most likely winner with main rival Master Medic declared a non-runner.
