Timeform have a look at a couple of competitive Flat cards at Doncaster and Kempton, providing you with their three best bets...
Trainer Henry Candy has only had the one runner so far in 2013, but his one representative was a winner in the shape of Amber Heights, and Code of Honor would appear to hold excellent claims of providing his handler with another success in the 14:40 at Kempton. Held back by his inexperience on debut, where he finished eighth behind the reopposing Glean, Code of Honor showed marked improvement to get off the mark at the second time of asking, responding well to pressure to prevail in what appeared to be an above-average Newbury maiden. Code of Honor was then asked to compete in nursery company, racing off a mark of 85 on ground softer than he had previously encountered, and he once again showed a pleasing attitude, rallying well to see off a couple of determined challenges. He looks as if he will surely stay today's trip of one mile - possibly even improve for it - and he remains open to plenty of improvement with just the three starts and a progressive profile to his name.
The Marco Botti-trained Solar Deity (15:50 Kempton) has thrived over the winter since tackling polytrack and, coming into this race on the back of a tenacious listed race success over seven furlongs, has a good chance of enhancing his already-impressive strike-rate on artificial surfaces. The way in which he responded to pressure and ran on strongly last time, just getting his head in front on the line, suggests that the step back up to a mile, a distance he is yet to be beaten over on polytrack, should play to his strengths. Solar Deity is by no means the only campaigner that relishes the surface in this race, but he is arguably the most progressive and has very few questions to answer, simply being a tough, steadily-improving horse.
The final race on Doncaster's card (17:15) provides us with one of our strongest bets of the day as we turn to recent Southwell runner-up Mata Hari Blue. A fairly useful handicapper last term for John Holt, Mata Hari Blue was making her first start for the impressive Michael Appleby stable when finishing second at Southwell, finding only the thriving Elusive Hawk too strong. It was certainly an encouraging performance, returning from a nine-month absence, and she shaped as if there are definitely races to be won off a mark of 70. Mata Hari Blue actually did well to finish within five lengths of the impressive winner as she helped cut out a strong pace - almost certainly too strong in hindsight - and she has excellent claims of registering victory.
