Alvaro Quiros won the Dubai Desert Classic after being matched at a high of 180.0 on Betfair, carding a third consecutive 68 to win by one shot over James Kingston and Anders Hansen. Quiros' final round was typical of one of the most exciting and flamboyant players on the European Tour and included a hole-in-one on the 11th, an eagle on the 2nd and a triple bogey on the 8th.

At one stage it looked like his chances were over after that triple bogey but he recovered well and none of his rivals for the win, which included James Kingston (low of [3.0]) and Rory McIlroy ([2.14]), made the most of Quiros' slip-up to post a sufficiently competitive score in the clubhouse, though credit goes to South African Kingston for playing the back nine in three under. In the end it was left to Anders Hansen to mount a final challenge; he went odds-on at [1.91] when leading by one and could have forced a play-off if he'd birdied the last but a poor second gave him virtually no-chance of attacking the flag with his third and he was left ruing a couple of missed birdie chances on 16 and 17, as he carded a final score of 10 under.

Tiger Woods was in the hunt at one stage, as was Lee Westwood, but both made mistakes as they tried to force the issue.
