John Dunlop: Trains Times Up
"The progressive Times Up might just prove too determined once again for Prompter despite a turnaround in the weights from their November Handicap meeting over C&D."
Timeform go through the runners for this mile-and-a-half minor event...
Merchant of Dubai has won seven times and progressed again in 2010, winning this race before finishing second in a listed race at Navan. He has since left Alan Swinbank and has a bit to do on these terms, but fitness is unlikely to be a worry.
Moyenne Corniche is talented, but his only win to date came in a 2-y-o maiden. He ended 2010 with some decent placed efforts on the AW and has won first time out, but he is another who has plenty to find on these terms.
Nanton is a smart hold-up performer who is effective over a variety of trips. He ran creditably several times in 2010 in the face of stiff tasks, can go well fresh and is likely to be thereabouts if anywhere near tuned up.
Times Up was in fine form after winning at Newmarket last July, capping the season with victory in the November Handicap over C&D. He is a late developer with more progress in him and looks to hold leading claims.
Prompter improved upped to 1½m at the end of 2010 but was still unable to add to his sole maiden win, finishing sixth behind Times Up here in November Handicap on final run. His weak finishes need to be ironed out if he's to go on.
Cracking Lass is a lightly-raced filly who posted a career-best effort when winning a 12-furlong handicap in the mud at Leicester last October, but she was well held in the November Handicap next time. She is a bit quirky, and probably needs more rain.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Times Up
2. Prompter
3. Nanton
Timeform View: The progressive Times Up might just prove too determined once again for Prompter despite a turnaround in the weights from their November Handicap meeting over C&D. Nanton looks third best if the rain stays away.
