Big fields are the order of the day in Ireland

"[Barrow Island] won a mile maiden at Dundalk back in March but has long looked worth a try at this trip and was only run out of things close home in a better race than this at the Curragh last time."

We have picked out three bets on the Bank Holiday cards at Naas and Listowel....

Supporters of Unwanted Gift had their fingers burnt at Clonmel last month but Louis Archdeacon's gelding ran well enough that day to suggest that he can gain compensation here. Unwanted Gift was travelling comfortably with a bit to do after the third last that day and stayed on steadily to be nearest at the finish without getting anything like a hard time. His pedigree screams speed but he is a point winner and shapes as if well worth a try at this sort of trip.

Mick Halford has plenty of interesting runners at Naas but the one of his that I like most is Barrow Island in the seven-furlong handicap at 15:40. This son of Chevalier won a mile maiden at Dundalk back in March but has long looked worth a try at this trip and was only run out of things close home in a better race than this at the Curragh last time. He is on a workable mark, is nicely drawn in stall 5 and is less exposed than the majority of these.

Colin Bowe looks all set to be crowned champion point-to-point trainer for the 2010/11 in Ireland today and has a good chance of a winner on the racecourse proper with Our Victoria in the mares maiden chase at 16:50. Our Victoria herself won two of her three starts in points and made a bright start under Rules last season, landing a bumper at Punchestown and a maiden hurdle at Clonmel. She shaped as if on the way back to form when third to Datokepe in a three-mile hurdle at Kilbeggan last time and makes plenty of appeal with Davy Russell booked in a race where previous chase form is very thin on the ground.

Recommendations
