Ford wil captain Scotland in the Six Nations

"Ford has been capped 53 times and is described by Robinson as, 'A man who will step up and lead from the front.'"

Scotland appoint captain ahead of Six Nations match against England on February 4.

With less than a fortnight to go before they kick-off their Six Nations campaign against England, Scotland manager Andy Robinson has appointed Ross Ford as team captain.

The Scots are [2.52] to get off to a winning start at Murrayfield on Saturday February 4 with England favourites at [1.77].

Robinson said that he had intended for back-row forward Kelly Brown to lead the sign but an injury in a Heineken Cup match at the weekend means that he could miss the tournament.

Ford, who plays at hooker for his country and Edinburgh, has been capped 53 times and is described by Robinson as, "A man who will step up and lead from the front."

Scotland will hope to do more than avoid the Wooden Spoon - for which they're [3.75] - at this year's Six Nations. At [25.0], winning the Six Nations seems unlikely but victory against England would certainly set them on their way to giving a decent account of themselves in 2012.

England, meanwhille, are [5.1] to retain the title they won last year.

Flanker set to miss England's first two matches through injury. Is it time to back Scotland?...

Lancaster puts his faith in youth and opts for a very forward-thinking team. But how will they deliver in the short term, during the 2012 Six Nations?...

O'Driscoll and co. put the Red Rose to the sword with an indominatable performance that leaves Johnson soul-seraching....
