Mic's Delight looks the most likely winner of the novice chase set to go off at 15:15 at Market Rasen this afternoon and, at the current odds, looks a feasible back selection to land the spoils. Mic's Delight had the pick of hurdles form out of the six-runner field and has also taken well to fences, finishing second on debut before breaking his maiden last time over course and distance. His chasing form is yet to reach the level he demonstrated over hurdles and more can definitely be expected from this eight-year-old Victor Dartnall trained gelding. Mic's Delight made the running last time and went on to score with something in hand in a three-runner affair, but with more pace on today, he is likely to be seen in an even better light.
Pistol Basc has been given some slack by the handicapper and he looks well worth chancing in the staying handicap chase (16:20) on the same card. Ferdy Murphy does well with horses of a similar profile and Pistol Basc should definitely be capable of going close off of a BHA handicap mark of 94. He comes out top on Timeform ratings for today's race and it looks a contest where he could be able to regain the winning thread given the question marks over the majority of his rivals. The nine rivals he faces this afternoon have questions over their attitude, jumping, ability or in some cases all three and, in what doesn't look a strong race, Pistol Basc is good value.
Esteem has been thriving recently and looks very much the one to beat switched back to hurdles (16:40) at Ffos Las this afternoon. He has improved significantly over fences in recent months and there is every reason he can transfer his improved ability back over timber in what looks a very winnable race. The main dangers are certainly Bendant and Abbi Jicaro but Esteem looks as though he could be well ahead of the handicapper and rates as the bet of the day.
