Catterick is the venue for today's best bet.

"Shan Valley comes out top in terms of Timeform weight-adjusted ratings, and there is every chance that she is even better than her form so far has allowed her to demonstrate..."

Three more SmartPlays from the Timeform Free Form Site with two bets at Catterick and one at Lingfield this afternoon...

Shan Valley was the winner of a handicap hurdle at Wetherby on her penultimate start but was unable to follow-up last time out when pulled-up in a similar conditional jockey's event at Newcastle. There were excuses for that performance (reportedly strunk into) and Michael Easterby's six-year-old can return to form this afternoon in the 14:50 at Catterick. Shan Valley comes out top in terms of Timeform weight-adjusted ratings, and there is every chance that she is even better than her form so far has allowed her to demonstrate, given her relatively lightly-raced profile, and teams up with Jake Greenall here to form Tuesday's bet of the day.

The Red Laird (16:50) made his second appearance of the 2010/11 season a winning one and he can do exactly the same this time around after a promising run on his seasonal debut last time out at Plumpton. That performance marked a career best and there is every reason to believe that The Red Laird can build upon that display and get back to winning ways for trainer Neil King. The three mile trip should be perfect for our selection, something which cannot be said for all of his rivals, and, with other question marks over ability surrounding some of those he faces today, The Red Laird looks a good bet to land the spoils under 3-lb claimer Alex Merriam.

Gallantry (17:10) can gain his fifth course victory in the final race of the afternoon at Lingfield despite the contest looking fairly competitive. Gallantry bounced right back to form last time out, finishing second at Kempton having come from out the back in a strongly run race and, with the possibilty of a similar scenario occurring here, he is taken as capable of repeating that feat. Gallantry is marginally preferred to the reliable Cristaliyev in terms of Timeform ratings and, whilst that one is likely to provide the stiffest competition, Gallantry looks good value at the prices. It is worth noting that Gallantry has a reputation for being relatively unreliable, but he tends to save his best for Lingfield and a mile looks his optimum trip so he should go close if reproducing his best.

Timeform SmartPlays:
Back Shan Valley @ [8.0] in the 14:50 at Catterick
Back The Red Laird @ [5.0] in the 16:50 at Catterick
Back Gallantry @ [6.4] in the 17:10 at Lingfield
