Market Rasen stages the Race of the Day

"Dusky Bob still seems to be improving judging by his last 2 starts and gets the vote at a trip which should suit."

Timeform look at the field for a competitive handicap hurdle at Market Rasen...

Jukebox Melody won a Newcastle novice hurdle last March for Malcolm Jefferson, but improved since joining this yard, runner-up here last 2 starts. Settles better now so this extra distance well worth exploring.

Vintage Star placed in bumpers before making winning hurdling debut at Carlisle in November. Improved on second attempt in a handicap when second of 19 at Wetherby for this rider last time and much respected.

Low Gales is a point winner who showed big improvement upped in trip and fitted with a tongue tie when winning maiden at Ludlow last month, looking a real stayer. Further progress needed on handicap debut.

Phare Isle was let down by jumping over fences and form over timber has patchy look to it. Not out of this if putting best foot forward on return from break, but comes with risks attached in first-time headgear.

Dusky Bob has improved since joining this yard, winning hurdle and chase in the autumn. Back on track when second in handicap hurdles at Huntingdon/Carlisle last 2 starts and worth another try at this trip.

Everaard is thriving, and completed hat-trick of wins at Musselburgh a month ago, showing good attitude. Didn't appear to have much in hand for latest success and 4 lb higher now, but won't go down lightly.

Lawgiver is inconsistent and hasn't won since April 2010. Twice runner-up over shorter earlier this season, but easy to oppose at this trip against plenty of in-form sorts.

General Ting is winless since April 2010 and recent efforts blighted by weak finishes. Has dropped to very tempting mark, but hard to be confident about at this trip.

Peedeeque improved when making winning debut for this yard in 19f Doncaster handicap in November. Creditable third there next time, though stamina seemed stretched over 2¾m on latest, albeit on soft surface.

2. Everaard
3. Vintage Star

Timeform View: A competitive event featuring plenty of in-form sorts. Dusky Bob still seems to be improving judging by his last 2 starts and gets the vote at a trip which should suit. Everaard and Vintage Star head the list of potential dangers.
