Willie Mullins sends a strong team to Fairyhouse today
"Ceol Rua is going the right way over jumps and should take all the beating in the Grade 2 for mares at 14:25..."
We've picked out three egg-cellent SmartPlays on today's Easter Sunday cards at Cork and Fairyhouse...
Ceol Rua is going the right way over jumps and should take all the beating in the Grade 2 for mares at 14:25. She has already won twice at this track this season, including a listed contest on her latest start in January, and she has repeatedly shaped as if a step up to this sort of trip will suit her. It is also worth pointing out that her best effort in bumpers came on good ground and those are the conditions she faces this afternoon.
Discoteca looks the best bet on a trappy card at Cork but that is sure to be reflected in his price so those who don't like to get involved at very short odds may be better off to wait for Andunowhat in the 14:35. Admittedly two miles on an easy track such as this one isn't ideal for Andunowhat but she has comfortably the best hurdles form on offer here and won't get many, if any, better chances to win a maiden than this.
Tony McCoy has five rides on the Fairyhouse card, the pick of which appears to be Competitive Edge in the 15:55. This son of Presenting has won his last two starts in fine style, beating subsequent winner Double Double in a maiden at Punchestown prior to landing a handicap with plenty to spare at Navan last time. An 8 lb penalty for that latest win looks fair and this race isn't quite so competitive as the number of runners would lead one to believe.
Timeform Irish SmartPlays:
Back Ceol Rua in the 14:25 @ Fairyhouse
Back Andunowhat in the 14:35 @ Cork
Back Competitive Edge in the 15:55 @ Fairyhouse
David Cleary makes a pair of selections from today's racing - one in Ireland and the other in England...
Three more Timeform SmartPlays for Sunday with Bet of the Day from Musselbrugh......
The day's sole Flat meeting at Musselburgh is more competitive than either of the National Hunt cards and strikes as the best venue for a placepot......
