Andrew Balding is the man to keep an eye on this afternoon
"Fans of big field sprint handicaps can get their teeth into the 15.20, where Desert Law is taken to defeat some old favourites. The selection has always been held in high regard by Andrew Balding, who knows this family so well."
It's all about Andrew Balding today at Doncaster and there are two of his horses worth keeping an eye on this afternoon. John O'Connell tell us why.
Two excellent meetings today and with the flat turf season getting into swing, Doncaster stages a highly competitive card with over 120 runners. Fans of big field sprint handicaps can get their teeth into the 15.20, where Desert Law is taken to defeat some old favourites. The selection has always been held in high regard by Andrew Balding, who knows this family so well. He was heavily backed for his reappearence last spring only to find the classy Majestic Myles a neck too good. But that shows his ability to go well fresh and a gelding operation since he was last seen may be the making of him. He can take this on the way to bigger things.
I will stick with Balding for my other selection as I think Tappanappa may spring a surprise in the 16.30. On ratings he has plenty to find with King Of Wands (long absence to overcome) but the fact that he elects to come here instead of exploiting a favourable handicap mark suggests that he thinks he is up to the task. Well backed when scoring at Kempton recently, he has a fitness edge over his main rivals and can take this.
Two bets from Terry Norman today from two very different parts of the world....
With the sun set to shine for one more day it's best to focus on fast ground performers in today's two jumps meetings says John O'Connell....
Finally some proper jumps racing! Dan Barber has a bet at both Newcastle and Ffos Las this afternoon...
