You can back Newcastle at 7.06/1 for a top four finish and 2.8815/8 to end the season in the top six. Spurs are 3.185/40 for the top four.
New Spurs manager begins tenure with defeat. Meanwhile, Pardew blows his top at official and is forced to apologise...
Hatem Ben Arfa's late penalty meant that Andre Villas-Boas got off to a losing start as Tottenham manager at St James Park on Saturday.
The Newcastle midfielder secured all three points for the home side just four minutes after Jermain Defoe - backed to scored by Lee Dixon - had levelled.
Demba Ba's excellent curled effort put the Magpies ahead after a goalless first half in which Defoe hit the post. The visitors created several chances but failed to take them - something which will surely make AVB even keener to secure the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew made a fool of himself, losing his cool and pushing the assistant referee because he believed the ball had gone out in the build-up to a Gylfi Sigurdsson effort. Pardew was sent to the stands from where he watched Defoe score Spurs' equaliser.
However, there was joy for the Newcastle manager when Ben Arfa tricked his way in to the Spurs' box before being brought down. The Frenchman got up and duly dispatched the ball past Brad Friedel.
So, a winning start for last season's surprise package against a team which remain an unknown quantity under their new boss. At present, you can back Newcastle at 7.06/1 for a top four finish and 2.8815/8 to end the season in the top six. Spurs are 3.185/40 for the top four.
