Chester Vase Result: O'Brien Ruler Of The World

Aidan O'Brien's Ruler Of The World ran out a wide-margin winner of the Chester Vase in the hands of Ryan Moore...

The master of Ballydoyle had saddled three of the last six winners of the recognised Derby trial in Soldier Of Fortune (2007), Golden Sword (2009) and Treasure Beach (2011) and his latest candidate was a 10-11 favourite off the back of a Curragh maiden victory a month ago.

Ruler Of The World tracked the early pace set by Mister Impatience, but took over from the home turn and soon stamped his authority on the Group Three contest.

Once Moore picked up his whip, his mount lengthened quite impressively to pass the post with six lengths in hand.

Mister Impatience was clear second best, ahead of Havana Beat and Feel Like Dancing.

Moore said: "He did it nicely. The race worked out well for him as he got a nice lead.

"He's still a bit green running round here, but once I grabbed hold of him he lengthened really well.

"He'll learn a lot. Going round here will have done him good."

Paul Smith, son of part-owner Derrick Smith, said: "Aidan thinks quite a lot of him, he's been working well at home and we're really delighted with that.

"We thought he might be a little bit green and a little bit babyish.

"I think with the tight, turning track and the crowd, it was a good choice (of race) and it paid dividends.

"You'd have to be very happy with him. He stayed the trip."

bet365 Gold Cup Result: Daly lifts season finale

Quentin Collonges outbattled Same Difference in a thrilling finish to lift the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown...

Andrew Tinkler was always prominent aboard the Henry Daly-trained winner, with the 17.016/1 shot tracking early leaders Becauseicouldntsee and Galaxy Rock.

That pair had built up a seven-length advantage with a circuit to run in the Grade Three heat but their early efforts eventually told and they were lining up in behind.

With three fences to jump, there were a handful of horses, including favourite Away We Go, travelling well and poised to challenge.

However, the market leader lost all chance when crashing through the second-last fence while Muirhead also appeared to make a costly mistake.

That left Quentin Collonges and Same Difference to slug it out, with Sam Twiston-Davies looking pretty confident on the latter.

They took the last together and Same Difference edged ahead, only for Tinkler to ask his mount for one last push which proved decisive as he pulled two lengths clear at the line.

Away We Go was a further 13 lengths back in third with Muirhead in fourth.

Daly said: "We were going to go to Scotland (for the Scottish National) but the ground was so heavy (earlier in the week), so we came here instead.

"He's not big enough to jump the fences when it's soft so he's had a light campaign.

"Briery Fox led over the last here and got beat (in 2009) so it's a very nice end of season race to win.

"I'd imagine he'll go for good staying chases next year, but he's so small that the National fences would seem very big for him, it's something we'll have to think about."

Tinkler said: "It's great that on a day Nicky Henderson is crowned champion trainer, another of the trainers I ride for has won a big race.

"He stays so well but it's his attitude that helps him to stay, he's so tough."

Nigel Twiston-Davies said of the runner up: "I thought we were going to win but we were giving 9 lb away to an improving horse."

Aintree Result: Dynaste dazzles in Mildmay

Dynaste went one place better than at Cheltenham with a smart display in the Mildmay Novices' Chase...

A red-hot favourite for Cheltenham's Jewson Novices' Chase off the back of three impressive victories over fences, David Pipe's grey suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Irish raider Benefficient.

Stepping back up in distance, he was the 3.211/5 favourite to gain compensation and did so in some style.

Tom Scudamore sat towards the rear of the field for much of the three-mile-one-furlong journey but arrived there travelling powerfully at the top of the home straight.

He claimed Third Intention on the run to the final fence, jumped it the quicker and stayed on strongly on the run-in to take the Grade Two prize by six lengths.

Scudamore said: "It was great. It was disappointing to get beat at Cheltenham, but he was probably beaten by a very good horse. It's great he's gone out and done it today.

"I wasn't that happy early on. I was niggling him a little bit, but the further he went the better he went.

"He's just a very good horse. It doesn't matter what trip, what ground. He takes it all in.

"I knew that whatever happened I was going to have more toe than them so I let Super Duty and Rocky Creek get on with it.

"He's won over two and a half and has got enough speed to drop back to two.

"David (Pipe) said, whatever happens, ride him with supreme confidence. He's the sort of horse you can as he's very straight forward. He doesn't pull and he jumps very well. He's economical and takes you where you want to go. He's just a joy to ride.

"He's going to have to step up again (next season), but he's a very good horse.

"All being well he's going to be our main horse next year for the championship races.

"He'll keep everyone excited over the summer. He's very solid and hopefully he can take the step up and take on the real big boys."

Pipe said: "I thought he ran well at Cheltenham and just got beat by a better horse on the day.

"He's a very good horse and he proved that on the day.

"He is in at Punchestown so we'll have to see how he comes out of this and have a chat with his owner. That will probably be it for the season, but we'll have to see.

"You've got to look at races like the Paddy Power, the Betfair, King George. Those will be his first half of the season targets and we will go from there."

Topham Chase Result: Geraghty triumphs aboard Triolo d'Alene

Triolo D'Alene held on to claim a thrilling Topham Chase for the red-hot Henderson and Geraghty...

A little over half an hour after stable star Sprinter Sacre turned in a brilliant display in the Melling Chase, Triolo D'Alene was a 17.2n/a shot to claim this two-mile-five-furlong handicap run over the Grand National fences.

Geraghty was never too far off the pace and sent his mount to the lead jumping the final obstacle.

The six-year-old galloped on strongly all the way up the gruelling run-in to hold off the determined challenge of Walkon by three-quarters of a length.

Last Time D'Albain and the front-running Dunowen Point rounded off the placings.

Henderson said: "The boys have done an amazing job. This was always the plan. We thought the race would suit him. His jumping is exemplary and the trip was right.

"Everything was going swimmingly well at home until the weekend when he decided to take one of his shoes off during the night and tread on it.

"He's always been sound and been able to work but we were always having to fight and fight and there were days when I didn't think he'd get here.

"We always thought this would be his race, he had the right sort of profile."

Max McNeill, owner of the Alan King-trained runner-up Walkon, said: "That was a magnificent effort. We had to have a big debate about coming here and he's been so unlucky as he keeps on finding one too good this year.

"I shall have to try to persuade my wife to run him in next year's Grand National."

Melling Chase Result: Sacre Sprints to Aintree glory

A step up in distance made little distance to Sprinter Sacre as he turned in another breathtaking performance in the Melling Chase at Aintree...

Nicky Henderson's incredibly talented seven-year-old had stretched his unbeaten record over fences to eight with an imperious display in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, but was stepping into the unknown on Merseyside.

Tackling two and a half miles for the first time over the larger obstacles, he was a 1-3 favourite to beat a top-class field including Ryanair Chase winner Cue Card, Irish raider Flemenstar and his own stable companion Finian's Rainbow, winner of this race and the Champion Chase last season.

With Cue Card and Flemenstar disputing the lead throughout, the pace gradually increased and all four of the main protagonists turned in some brilliant leaps heading down the back straight.

Sprinter Sacre was travelling with his usual extravagance in behind and once unleashed by Barry Geraghty, the writing was on the wall for his opponents.

Cue Card admirably stuck to his task, but Sprinter Sacre brushed him aside and safely negotiating the final fence to score by four and a half lengths without coming off the bridle.

Flemenstar was a long way back in third, with Finian's Rainbow, who was sent to the front by Tony McCoy leaving the back straight, fading into fourth.

Geraghty said: "He was brilliant. I suppose I could have done with going a little bit quicker.

"He travelled a bit too well and I had to take him back a few times to make use of his jumping. Because of the distance I didn't want to get to the front too soon.

"He was more relaxed than at Cheltenham, but we didn't go quick. He tanked a little. He was very manageable, he wasn't wanting to do anything silly like tear off with me. He was very co-operative and a real gentleman.

"When you let him loose like at the second-last he does it too easily.

"The two and a half miles didn't make any difference. He has plenty of pace and is very versatile."

Henderson said: "He's just a natural athlete. He's got a huge amount of ability and knows how to use it.

"I don't think anybody has taught him about jumping. It is sheer natural talent and it's good to watch when it's over.

"As Barry says that is probably as far as he wants to go. He gets two and a half but he doesn't need any more. It gives him options."

Henderson was not completely ruling out a quick return at Punchestown on April 23, adding: "I'm not ruling it in or out, I sort of think I'd like to show him to the people in Ireland one day.

"He's not had hard races has he. Let's see how he comes out of this."

Cheltenham Gold Cup Result: Bobs Worth floors Gold Cup rivals

"...Geraghty never looked unduly fazed and, upon presenting Bobs Worth to lead between the last two fences, the result never looked in serious doubt."

The 11/4 favourite Bobs Worth has won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in a thrilling renewal at a soggy Prestbury Park.

Ridden by Barry Geraghty for Nicky Henderson, Bobs Worth was initially held off the early pace, which was set by 2011 winner Long Run with last year's Gold Cup runner-up The Giant Bolster in close attendance.

Long Run, who seemed to benefit from the widely talked-about fitting of cheekpieces, jumped and travelled better than usual in front, but was joined by Sir des Champs (ridden by late replacement AP McCoy) early on the final circuit, with Silviniaco Conti and The Giant Bolster stalking and Bobs Worth not seeming to go as fluently as some others.

As they raced down the hill, the quintet of Long Run, Sir des Champs, Silviniaco Conti The Giant Bolster and Bobs Worth started to pull away. Silviniaco Conti departed three out when landing too steeply, hindering Bobs Worth in the process and leaving him a handful of lengths off the pace as Sir des Champs and Long Run went hell-for-leather turning in.

However, Geraghty never looked unduly fazed and, upon presenting Bobs Worth to lead between the last two fences, the result never looked in serious doubt. He ran out a seven-length winner from a tired Sir des Champs, with Long Run another two and three-quarter lengths behind. The Giant Bolster was fourth.

Afterwards, Geraghty's was quick to give his thoughts to JT McNamara, the amateur jockey seriously injured on yesterday's Cheltenham card.

Bobs Worth returned at a BSP of 3.76, and can be backed at 6.25/1 for the 2014 renewal.

Triumph Hurdle Result: Dazzling Conor in cruise control

Our Conor put up an impressive display to run away with the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham...

Never out of the first two, Dessie Hughes' youngster stretched his 100% record over jumps to four with an emphatic success. Ridden by Bryan Cooper, Our Conor bounded clear from the second-last to win unchallenged by 15 lengths from Far West with Sametegal a further two and a quarter lengths away in third.

Diakali, runner-up to Our Conor on their previous start, set a decent pace on the rain-softened ground with his old rival watching his every move. Other fancied horses Far West and Rolling Star were on their heels until Our Conor was sent about his business two out. Once Our Conor opened up, he left the field in his wake and had the race sewn up before the last.

Dessie Hughes, who was responsible for dual Champion Hurdle hero Hardy Eustace, said: "Everything went well and he jumped brilliant - he's a real one isn't he?"

"He is certainly a Champion Hurdle horse. He stays, he has foot and he jumps. The Champion Hurdle is all about jumping and he certainly does that."

Winning jockey Bryan Cooper said: "I've never had a feeling like that before in my life, I was there a mile too soon. I sat for as long as I could but nothing could come with me."

Albert Bartlett Result: McCoy wins on At Fishers Cross

At Fishers Cross was providing the Champion Jockey with his first winner of the week, and he won in tremendous style, justifying strong market support as he stormed clear up the hill...

Tony McCoy, who is due to take the ride aboard Sir des Champs in the Gold Cup, registered a timely victory on At Fishers Cross in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle...

At Fishers Cross was providing the Champion Jockey with his first winner of the week, and he won in tremendous style, justifying strong market support as he stormed clear up the hill.

Nigel Twiston-Davies' progressive young hurdler African Gold held off Inish Island for second place, the front trio a long way clear of the pace-setting O'faolains Boy who faded back into fourth.

The form of the Rebecca Curtis-trained At Fishers Cross was looking strong following The New One's decisive victory earlier in the week, and, with rain turning the ground to his favour, punters latched on, sending him off a well-supported 2.43 shot.

Always travelling well, McCoy merely had to nudge his mount approaching the final flight to assert and win in ready fashion.

Against All Odds: PSG to grind out a result at home

"Carlo Ancelotti is a tactically shrewd manager and he will know that he doesn’t want to get into a goal scoring slugfest with Valencia in the absence of his star striker."

Lay Over 2.5 goals in Paris St-G v Valencia @ 1.9620/21

Paris St-G meet Valencia in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie tonight and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic suspended for PSG, Paul Robinson thinks we could be in for a low scoring game.

PSG hold the advantage going into this match as they won the first leg in Spain by two goals to one. They looked to have a relatively comfortable passage secured as they led 2-0 going into injury time but Adil Rami pulled one back for Valencia and then Zlatan Ibrahimovic saw red.

Losing Ibrahimovic is a huge blow for Carlo Ancelotti as the Swede has netted 22 of their 49 league goals this term and while he's only scored two in the Champions League, he's assisted five of the other 14. It's also worth pointing out that when PSG lost him to suspension earlier in the season, their league form dipped, picking up just one point from their next two games.

Valencia have been a touch disappointing this term and despite only losing one of their group games in this competition, they've never really looked entirely convincing and they are only fifth in La Liga, albeit only a point adrift of Malaga in fourth.

Ernesto Valverde's side were bitterly disappointing in the first leg at the Mestalla Stadium and they go into tonight's match knowing that they have to score at least twice to have a chance of qualifying. That will be no mean feat though and it's something they've achieved just once in their last nine games in the Champions League.

Carlo Ancelotti is a tactically shrewd manager and he will know that he doesn't want to get into a goal scoring slugfest with Valencia in the absence of his star striker. I expect him to set up his team quite defensively with the main goal of not conceding rather than scoring.

Over 2.5 goals is currently trading at odds-on, at around the 1.9620/21 mark, and the play has to be to take that on, which is why I'm making it my lay of the day.

Premier League Stats: Liverpool's tough double header to result in nil points

"City have scored in their last 43 Premier League home games, winning 37 (86%), and it would be a surprise if Liverpool were strong enough to shut them out."

Back Manchester City to beat Liverpool @ 1.910/11

After Liverpool's shock loss to Oldham in the FA Cup they now face a tough double header in the Premier League, starting with tonight's trip to Arsenal. Andrew Atherley assesses their chances...

Brendan Rodgers questioned the mental strength of his young Liverpool players following the FA Cup defeat at Oldham and it is something that may be asked again if they come away empty-handed from this week's away double-header at Arsenal and Manchester City.

The signs are not promising for an immediate pick-me-up. Whether it's in the mind or simply a case of a lack of class, Liverpool's players have had particular difficulty in this type of fixture this season. They have the third-worst record against top-half opponents (based on the table prior to this week's fixtures) with no win out of 11 - only Wigan and Southampton have done worse in terms of points per game, and even then only marginally.

On the road Liverpool have drawn three and lost four against top-half teams, but a more telling statistic is that they have kept only one clean sheet in those seven matches, which backs up the argumenr that there is a lack of resolve in Rodgers' team. It is notable also that only West Brom in the top half have conceded more away goals than Liverpool's 18.

Arsenal, Liverpool's first hosts of the week, have a good chance of exploiting that weakness. While they haven't been as strong at home as usual, Arsene Wenger's team still have a good record when scoring at the Emirates (six wins out of eight in the Premier League) and look a decent win bet at 2.47/5 .

Manchester City are shorter, of course, at 1.910/11 for Sunday's home match against Liverpool but they are no less appealing.

City have scored in their last 43 Premier League home games, winning 37 (86%), and it would be a surprise if Liverpool were strong enough to shut them out.

On the other side of the coin, Liverpool have lost half of the 14 Premier League games in which they have conceded under Rodgers. Although both wins in that scenario came on the road, those were against bottom-half sides Norwich and West Ham and Liverpool have lost three of the last four away league games in which they have conceded.

If the premise is correct that both City and Arsenal will score against Liverpool, goals-related bets are worth considering too.

City have had 67% over 2.5 goals in those last 43 home games in which they have scored, but it is worth noting that both teams have scored in just 42% (a figure that rises only slightly with the quality of opposition).

Both outcomes seem more likely judging by Liverpool's figures. Of the nine away games in which Liverpool have conceded, seven (78%) have had over 2.5 goals and both teams have scored in eight (89%).

Clashes between the Premier League big six have continued to be high-scoring this season - 67% over 2.5 goals with both sides scoring in 84%. Last season both of those figures were 67%, which seems a good indication of where the true average might be at the moment.

Like Manchester City, Arsenal tend to hit higher scores once the opposition's barricades have been breached. Six of the eight home games in which they have scored this season have gone over 2.5 goals (both sides have scored in those same six games).

The odds seem in the backer's favour for Over 2.5 Goals in Arsenal v Liverpool at 1.738/11 and even on Both teams to Score at 1.68/13 .

Both outcomes are similarly priced for Manchester City v Liverpool at 1.748/11 for Over 2.5 Goals and 1.625/8 for Both teams to Score.

Premier League Result: Fletcher fires for Sunderland in away win

The result was sealed when Stephane Sessegnon scored the goal of the match with a fantastic strike from outside the box.

Martin O'Neill's men pick up rare away win as Hangeland sending off proves crucial in Craven Cottage clash...

Steven Fletcher scored his sixth goal of the season as Sunderland were matched at 5.95/1 on their way to valuable 3-1 away win over Fulham.

After a dour first-half, in which the one notable incident was Brede Hangeland's sending off for a foul on Lee Cattermole, the Scottish striker put the Black Cats ahead.

The hosts hit back, however, when Damien Duff set up Mladen Petric to equalise from close range.

Sunderland were determined to make their one man advantage count and Carlos Cuellar headed them back in to the lead only three minutes later.

The result was sealed when Stephane Sessegnon scored the goal of the match with a fantastic strike from outside the box.

It was a splendid result for the away side, for whom this was a first win for seven matches, and there was plenty to cheer too for those who backed 1-3 at 110.00109/1 in the correct score market.

The X Factor Result: Huge shock as 129/1 Ella is eliminated

"Joke Factor because the show has become exactly that, an absolute joke. The fact that 16-year-old Henderson is no longer in the competition is a disgrace."

Mike Norman brings us the latest X Factor elimination result, and for good reason, he's not a happy chap...

Perhaps we can replace the X for shock, or even as some would argue, joke, because tonight's elimination became a case of both.

Shock Factor because two of the competition's best ever performers - Ella Henderson and James Arthur - were voted by the British public into the bottom two whilst dreadful act Rylan Clark, and cruise ship singer Christopher Maloney, survived.

Joke Factor because the show has become exactly that, an absolute joke. The fact that 16-year-old Henderson is no longer in the competition is a disgrace. But who is to blame?

It's certainly not Clark or Maloney's fault, and although ultimately it was the public who voted Henderson and Arthur into the bottom two, is it really the public's fault also? No!

The people to blame are those who decided to keep this competition reliant on a public vote. For crying out load our public voted Michelle McManus, Steve Brookstein, Leon Jackson, and Matt Cardle as winners in various singing competitions.

Our British public even voted Chico, Darius Danesh, Jedward, and Wagner beyond the one week their singing talents should have allowed. Put simply, most of us haven't got a clue.

But tonight was the last straw. It was the night that the X Factor producers must now realise that the only way forward for such competitions is to have a professional panel decide the outcome. Scrap public voting all together... we get enough stupidity during Eurovision, we don't need it on X Factor too.

For the record Ella Henderosn was matched at a huge 130.0129/1 in the Seventh Elimination market but I think I've said all I have to say. I'll let Eliot Pollak update the odds later in the week.

Scarbrough Stakes Result: Powerful finish seals it for Sole

"All going well he will go for the Abbaye if the ground is right, and then on to Hong Kong as Johnny thinks he will be perfect to race over there."

Irish raider Sole Power produced a spectacular burst of speed to win the Scarbrough Stakes...

Slightly uneasy in the market due to concerns that the ground had gone against Edward Lynam's star, Sole Power, sent off at a Betfair SP 3.7, produced a startling turn of foot to register a comfortable success.

Always travelling strongly, it had briefly looked as if Sole Power might struggle to get a run, but once the gap appeared he quickened sharply to beat Jwala with Excelette back in third.

Lynam said: "I don't think anyone could say he didn't deserve that. Anyone who was brave enough to back a Group 1 horse in a Listed race at 11-4 has done very well.

"He came back from York (this year's Nunthorpe) very buzzy for whatever reason. He got too much daylight that day and it didn't do him any good. It's a long time until the Abbaye and Hong Kong, so we wanted to get another run into him.

"He was quite keen today - Johnny said he was going to be very cool on him and he certainly was. The horse has a very good turn of foot and all going well he will go for the Abbaye if the ground is right, and then on to Hong Kong as Johnny thinks he will be perfect to race over there."

York Result: Mince makes merry on the Knavesmire

Mince marked herself as a potential Pattern-race performer with a thoroughly impressive success in the Garrowby Stakes at York...

Winner of a Listed event at Pontefract last time, the Roger Charlton-trained filly was sent off the 2-1 favourite to follow up in this six-furlong event.

James Doyle was always going well aboard the filly and when he gave the signal, Mince pulled three and a half lengths clear to score a cosy victory.

Colour Of Love and Free Zone were separated by just a neck for the minor placings.

Charlton enjoyed a Group One placing when Bated Breath claimed a fine third in the Sprint Cup at Haydock and he tweeted: "Might have replacement for Bated Breath next year with Mince whooosh!"

Park Hill Stakes Result: Coco goes Wild at Doncaster

Wild Coco, sent off at a Betfair SP of 3.185/40 took the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster on Thursday...

The four-year-old, trained by Sir Henry Cecil, made a winning seasonal reappearance at Goodwood last month, landing the Group 3 Lillie Langtry Stakes by two and three-quarter lengths.

Estimate, who finished third at Goodwood, appeared to slip the field as the race drew to a close, going three lengths clear under Paul Hanagan and seemingly having her rivals in trouble. however, as they entered the final furlong the pack was closing, and it soon became evident that Wild Coco was going to get on top.

Hazel Lavery eventually stayed on to take second, leaving Estimate to fill third for the second successive occasion and Gallipot in fourth.

Wild Coco holds an entry in the Fillies' and Mares' Stakes on Champions Day, and is sure to be of interest in that event.

Irish Champion Stakes Result: Snow Fairy prevails under Dettori

Snow Fairy won the Irish Champion Stakes under Frankie Dettori, registering her seventh Group 1 win in the process...

Always travelling well, Snow Fairy had Nathaniel firmly in her sights as they turned for home and there was a sense of inevitability about the result as they approached the final furlong.

Nathaniel battled well to hold on to second, whilst St Nicholas Abbey finished well to take third.

Dettori had also ridden Snow Fairy 12 months ago when Dunlop's star found only So You Think too good.

Dettori said: "Usually I don't notice these things, but I could hear the crowd really get behind her and the roar when she crossed the line.

"The crowd at Leopardstown are fantastic. I've had some great days here. It's all about the filly, she's so popular. Everyone was delighted to see her win like that in a fighting finish. She got a tremendous cheer. She's as popular as Kauto Star over jumps and for racing we need superstars like that. She's small but she comes with a big punch!

"All the credit goes to Ed and the team for bringing her back after her serious injury, this race has been won by some great champions and she is one of them. It has been an honour to be on her again. Ryan said be patient and she'll quicken when you ask her. Ryan has been a gentleman, a great help."

There was a dramatic conclusion to the Group 1 Matron Stakes as Chachamaidee was awarded the race in the stewards' room.

Duntle, who won the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot, finished first-past-the-post, but the placings were reversed after it was decided that Duntle's rider Wayne Lordan had caused interference. Chachamaidee, who had received a bump, was only narrowly behind Duntle at the line and, after a lenghty inquiry, was eventually awarded the race.

Grosser Preis von Baden Result: Danedream lands the spoils

Last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Danedream followed-up her King George success with victory at Baden-Baden...

The four-year-old, who ran to a Timeform rating of 131 when winning at Longchamp last October, faced some stiff opposition from the likes of Deutsches Derby winner Pastorius and Novellist, but she was more than up to the task as she recorded her third victory of the year.

In a tactical affair which did not really take shape until the field entered the straight, Danedream swung wide and came to the stands-side rail, powering home to follow-up her win in the King George at Ascot, where she beat Nathaniel by a nose, in good style.

A defence of her Arc crown now looks on the cards, for which she can be backed at 7.87/1. Epsom Derby hero Camelot currently heads the market at 5.04/1, with Nathaniel, Ofevre and Masterstroke also prominent.

Solario Stakes Result: Moon brings up Noseda brace

Fantastic Moon was providing trainer Jeremy Noseda with a second successive win in the Solario Stakes, following Talwar in 2011.

Fantastic Moon came with a dramatic late run to land the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown...

The Dalakhani colt was making just his second racecourse appearance after winning a Newmarket maiden last month, but had created a strong enough impression to warrant going off at just 3/1 quickly upped in grade.

Despite not settling early on in rear off an unsatisfactory pace, William Buick at no point seemed concerned for Fantastic Moon's chances and, once produced over a furlong out, his mount came home strongly, eventually collaring Godolphin's Tha'ir in the shadow of the post.

Tha'ir had been sent off the 9/4 joint-favourite, along with Master of War, who eventually finished another head back in third.

Fantastic Moon was providing trainer Jeremy Noseda with a second successive win in the Solario Stakes, following Talwar in 2011. That one has been rather disappointing since, but with Fantastic Moon having the pedigree to be both smart and suited by trips significantly in advance of the seven furlongs of the Solario, he can hopefully continue to go forward.

Great Voltigeur Stakes Result: Buick makes all on Thought Worthy

Thought Worthy just held off the late challenge of favourite Main Sequence to land the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes.

Thought Worthy just held off the late challenge of favourite Main Sequence to land the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes...

Thought Worthy, sent off at a Betfair SP of 11.50, was given a brilliant tactical ride by Buick who set only a modest gallop in the early stages of the mile-and-a-half contest, but he quickened the pace before the home turn and caught one or two of his rivals a little flat-footed.

His advantage was eroded as they headed inside the last couple of furlongs, with favourite Main Sequence the biggest threat. But the John Gosden-trained Thought Worthy held on to claim the Group 2 prize by a neck.

Buick said: "He galloped well and stayed very well. He battled on well and stuck his head out. You have to admire a horse like this because he always tries his best."

The result has had an impact on the St. Leger market, with Thought Worthy now second favourite, behind Camelot, at 15.5n/a.

Earlier on the card, Dundonnell, sent off at a Betfair SP of 2.94, won the Group 3 Acomb Stakes. Roger Charlton's colt cruised into the lead under James Doyle after Afonso De Sousa had made the running, but, having looked likely to win easily, he showed his inexperience and allowed Steeler to get to within three-quarters of a length at the line. Afonso De Sousa finished a respectable third.

Winning jockey James Doyle said: "I was delighted with him. He's still very babyish, but he's helped me out there as the Aidan O'Brien horse (Afonso De Sousa) skipped away from us. I found myself in front too soon, but he's got a lot of gears."

International Stakes Result: Imperious Frankel wins again

"I suspected they'd go a good gallop, but we had our plan in place. It panned out nicely - he won ever so well. It's a fantastic training performance."

Frankel, the top-rated horse in Timeform's history, took the step up to ten furlongs in his stride, running out an emphatic winner of the Group 1 International Stakes...

Frankel has been awarded a provisional Timeform rating of 143 for his devastating success in the Juddmonte International, the fourth time that he has recorded a figure higher than 140. His master rating remains unchanged at 147, with the style of victory on the Knavesmire leaving the impression that, one day, his rating may yet go higher.

The result was never in doubt as Frankel loomed up effortlessly on the bridle two furlongs out in the hands of Tom Queally, powering clear of his rivals to register another extremely comfortable success. Farhh just held off St Nicholas Abbey to grab second, seven lengths behind Henry Cecil's star colt.

Queally said: "I suspected they'd go a good gallop, but we had our plan in place. It panned out nicely - he won ever so well. It's a fantastic training performance."

Queally added: "I gave them enough of a lead for the pace we were going and he won ever so well. He's certainly as good (over a mile and a quarter as a mile). Every man and his dog seemed to want to put their penny's worth in to say where he should run, but to run him in the owner's race and for him to make it 13 out of 13 speaks for itself. I'm delighted to be a part of it.

Sir Henry Cecil added: "That was great, wasn't it? It's fantastic. It's great for Yorkshire, they are very supportive of racing and they deserve to see him."

Asked how it made him feel, the trainer said: "Twenty years better."

When asked about Frankel's future targets, Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for Prince Abdullah, said: "He's not in there (the Arc). Henry didn't want him in the race and he'd have to be supplemented. There will be a discussion and we'll have to see. The plan was always Ascot (Champion Stakes or QEII) but we'll have to see how he comes out of race."
