Follow The Money: Thomas Junior being backed to boss his rivals

Recommended Bets

Back Big Sound @ 4.84/1 14:40 Huntingdon

Lay Thousand Stars @ 1.9520/21 14:50 Leopardstown

Back Thomas Junior @ 2.68/5 15:00 Huntingdon

Just the two meetings this afternoon in England and one in Ireland for the Follow The Money team to get their teeth stuck into. Here's today's three selections...

We start the day at Sedgefield where we will look to back Big Sound in the 14:40. Early money has seen this horse trade from a high of 6.86/1 in to a price of 4.84/1. Trainer Mark Walford stated that the heavy ground was the main factor for the disappointing run last time out at Catterick when finishing a long way behind the field. His last win came on soft ground back in the summer and his most promising recent run, when a close second at Wetherby, was also on soft ground, so today's going should suit. With that said, we think that Big Sound will make a big impression and get back to winning ways.

Moving over to Ireland for our lay, where we take a look at Thousand Stars, who runs in the 14:50 Leopardstown. A negative in the market all morning has seen him drift from 1.594/7 out to 1.9520/21. There's no questioning this horse would win this race very comfortably at his best, but recent form has been very disappointing, showing little to no impression on his last three runs. Although taking a step down in class for this affair, others look better off in the weights to pull off a shock win here.

Last up we move over to the 15:00 at Huntingdon where we will be backing Thomas Junior. A positive move has seen him go from 3.39/4 in to 2.68/5. Making progress in bumpers and hurdling the horse makes his handicap debut here. His last run out when third at Taunton is looking to be good form as the one he was beaten by has went on to win since, and his form on its own isn't bad reading, placing in three of his four starts. Jockey Tom Scudamore takes the ride today, and he has a respectable 25% strike rate when pairing up with trainer David Pipe. The horse looks relatively unexposed today and should get his debut win here.

Thomas Levet and the 7 worst golf injuries

The Open RSS / Dan Fitch / 13 July 2011 / Leave a Comment

Next time Thomas Levet will simply open a nice bottle of champagne.

Next time Thomas Levet will simply open a nice bottle of champagne.

Dan Fitch takes a look at the seemingly peaceful world of golf and finds hidden dangers at every turn.

On the face of it the sport of golf isn't a particularly dangerous one. There's no physical contact between the participants and no need to break out into as much as a jog. What could go wrong?

Well the ball is pretty hard for one, as are the clubs. There's also some rather dangerous elements around like deep bunkers and the odd water hazard - as Thomas Levet recently found out to his cost.

To celebrate his win at his native French Open, Levet jumped into the nearest lake. His over-excitement resulted in a broken shin, which would require surgery to insert screws and a metal plate. He will now miss the Open at Sandwich.

Levet is not the only golfer to have injured himself playing the gentle game. Here's the footage of his leg break, along with some other harrowing golf injuries.

Thomas Levet got more than he bargained for when he took the plunge.

A man uses his fat stomach as a tee and has to deal with predictably painful repercussions.

The rest of these injuries are stupid, but at least they're accidental.

Never go golfing with children or animals.

You'd think you'd be safe in the crowd, but watch out if Stewart Cink is around.

If your golf cart ever falls on it's side, don't try to get it back on it's wheels like this.

It's bad enough to suffer a broken bone when playing indoor mini-golf, but it's much worse when your wife is filming the sorry episode and is in hysterics at your pain.

Follow the money to Southwell and Taunton

Follow the money to Southwell and Taunton

"Ranjobaie has been steadily backed this morning from [5.2] in to [3.9]."

Today's follow the money market movers come from the meetings at Taunton and Southwell.

We start with the opener at Taunton, the Conditional Jockeys handicap hurdle at 13:50, where Normally has been supported from an early price of [15.5] in to [6.8]. Trainer John Flint has elected to put up his youngest son, Thomas, and whilst brother Rhys has been making many of the headlines, Thomas made a few of his own when, on his penultimate ride back in October and looking all over the winner (at [1.01]), he fell at the last on board No To Trident. That would have been a lesson well learnt if only for the telling off Thomas received in full view of the TV Cameras from his father! Dropped in class and relatively lightly raced, Normally is unexposed and from a stable more than capable of getting one ready, the money may mean that Thomas breaks his duck today.

In the 14.20 at the same track, a Novice Chase, Ranjobaie has been steadily backed this morning from [5.2] in to [3.9]. Admittedly, Ranjobaie has had the odd "four faults" over both hurdles and the larger obstacles but there was much to like about his last run when he seemed to be going best until tiring late on in the heavy going at Plumpton. With less testing ground today and the Venetia Williams stable enjoying four winners in the last week, it will not take too much improvement from Ranjobaie for the gelding to land the spoils today.

Our final mover is the day's negative in the shape of Double Duchess, in the 16:30 at Southwell, who has been on the drift from a low of [1.91] out to [3.2]. With a record of two from two over course and distance and just a 6lb penalty to shoulder for last week's facile win by nine length, it is difficult to fathom the weakness of Double Duchess, save the fact that he is up against one from the in form Mark Johnson stable (first run in a handicap), plus two other course winners so Paul D'Arcy's charge may not be able to dominate this field as he did last time.

Recommended bets:

Back Normally @ [6.8 ] Taunton 13.50
Back Ranjobaie @ [3.9] Taunton 14.20
Lay Double Duchess @ [3.2] Southwell 16.30
