Richard Fahey: Runs the unpenalised Dark Lane
"Dark Lane escapes a penalty for his win at Windsor last week and can follow up. David Nicholls runs three from which new recruit Jarrow makes the most appeal, while the lightly-raced Arry's Orse also enters the reckoning."
Timeform go through the runners for this sprint handicap...
Doctor Parkes is a three-time 5f winner who is just as effective over 6f. He got little respite from the handicapper after a series of good efforts without scoring in 2010, but goes well fresh.
Arry's Orse is a well-regarded colt who has evidently had problems. He pulled hard on his return at Kempton but it's still too soon to write him off, and he may be better than this grade when getting a clear run at his racing.
Ghost was lightly raced but temperamental for Barry Hills, winning a 7f Thirsk maiden on his 2010 reappearance. He might need to come down a bit in the weights before he's seen to best effect for his new yard.
Red Cape has hardly dropped at all in the weights despite ending 2010 out of form like many others from the yard, and may need a few more runs before he's back to his best, tiring 2f out on his return at Ripon 11 days ago.
Prince of Vasa is a Wolverhampton maiden winner whose best effort came when second in a C&D handicap off this mark. He was pulled up over hurdles when last seen in October, but this is a much more suitable test.
Solar Spirit ended a long losing run in a 7f Catterick handicap in October, when trained by John Quinn. He went with little promise on his reappearance at Doncaster earlier in the month and his new yard has been slow to get going.
Jarrow dropped a long way in the weights with Mark Johnston in 2010 and was beaten just a neck in first-time blinkers when last seen in October. He has been gelded and could give a good account on his first run for an in-form yard.
Captain Royale ended 2010 in good form for Tracy Waggott, winning three sprint handicaps from seven starts. He probably isn't that badly treated on his debut for a new yard..
Dark Lane gained reward for his consistency when making a successful return to turf in a 6f apprentice handicap at Windsor last week. He escapes a penalty for that and another bold bid is expected.
Karaka Jack is well handicapped on last season's second in the Esher Cup at Sandown when with Mark Johnston, but he has an indifferent record since and folded tamely at Doncaster on his reappearance.
Stonehaugh had patchy from last season, beaten in plating company after narrowly winning a 7.5f Beverley handicap in July. Conditions are in his favour, but he's 4 lb out of the weights here.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Dark Lane
2. Jarrow
3. Arry's Orse

Timeform run the rule over this two-and-a-half-mile handicap chase......
The Scottish Grand National is the highlight at Ayr on Saturday......
The sprint handicap at Newbury looks very competitive, but can Dandy Nicholls strike with Courageous?...
