Jeff Overton has performed well since last year's disappointment
"Jeff Overton has a great chance to improve on last year's runner up finish."
Will last year's nearly-man finish off the job this weekend at the Greenbier Classic? Maybe, says Dan Geraghty as he selects his trio of big odds bets...
Jeff Overton [27.0] has been on my mind for this event for a while. He really should have opened his PGA Tour account here last year and can blame his failure to do so on a ridiculous 59 from Stuart Appleby coupled with a rogue pitch mark on the 17th green that derailed his five foot birdie putt during the final round.
Overton put that disappointment behind him with a fine debut Ryder Cup performance, he's been in solid form of late and has a great chance to improve on last year's runner up finish. The course has been extended a few hundred yards this year but that shouldn't bother my three: they can bomb it with the best of them.
Make no mistake, Anthony Kim [50.0] is on the comeback trail. Last week in Canada was a real test, off the back of a gruelling Open Championship, on a course that demanded straight tee shots, Kim somehow managed to control his errant driving and shot an under par first round. Thankfully, the fact he was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard for round two means we can gloss over the number shot during that round. This week the rough will be more forgiving, the course looks made for him and if the last fortnight hasn't taken too much out of him, Kim could be a genuine challenger for the title.
Webb Simpson [26.0] is having a real breakthrough season (without having actually broken through and won on tour, thus far). He's a young American who is full of confidence in his own ability, he didn't back down without a fight when losing out to Bubba Watson in a playoff earlier this year and is ready to take the next step into the winners' enclosure. Webb's playing with Anthony Kim (and Ryan Palmer) for the first two days and theirs is a lovely three ball to fix our attention.
Dangers: Phil Mickelson [11.5] played some wonderful golf at the Open Championship, if his putter was hot he'd have been a few clear going into the weekend. Lefty hasn't played here before but may relish his return to target golf. It's flag hunting time! Cameron Tringale [120.00] has drawn a lovely tee time with last years nearly man Jeff Overton, first out in the afternoon on day one and first out in the morning on Friday. If he doesn't make his presence felt on the leaderboard, I'll eat my hat. Gary Woodland [44.0], future star, nice price.
Selections: Jeff Overton [27.0], Anthony Kim [50.0], Webb Simpson [26.0]

*don't be ridiculous, of course I'm not going to give Jeff Overton as a headline tip and not direct you towards this.
